Eliot Spitzer is running for governor of New York State. He is seeking to replace George Pataki, a Republican who opted not to run again after serving for three terms. Spitzer has tapped state Senate Minority Leader David Paterson (D-Harlem) to run on his ticket for lieutenant governor. Spitzer is seeking the Democratic nomination but faces a primary challenge from Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi. Spitzer has also been endorsed by the state's Independence Party and the Working Families Party. John Faso won the Republican Party nomination by capturing 61.2 percent of the vote at the party's June convention. Key dates in the campaign:
